A very Happy Christmas to all

Dear friends

For a Christian minister, it is not, I must admit a very promising start - but I am sat here on a late November afternoon, in front of a computer screen - full of unbelief. Is it really Christmas again? So soon! I don't believe it!

But of course I must believe it - all the signs are there. The hotels have been inviting me to book a Christmas meal for months. The shops are all offering me a very happy Christmas - especially if they can sell me some nice expensive goodies. The children are getting excited - and - things are beginning to stir and gather pace in the Sunday school. Before long they will be trying to cram thirteen essential practices into three evenings a week. (Well almost!)

Some of you may have exactly the same negative view of the Christmas story - can't believe it, won't believe it, don't believe it. But if you take time to read the background In the Old Testament, and then read the story over again as it is recorded in the Gospels, you will find that all the signs are there and many major prophesies are being fulfilled. As in Matthew 1 20-23 "Joseph son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins." All this took place to fulfil what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:

"Behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a son.

And they shall call his name Immanuel"

(Which means God with us)

Once again we offer you a very warm welcome to all our Christmas services, and pray that you may enjoy a peaceful Christmas and a promising New Year.
