Dear Friends,

The months seem to be flying by again - two gone ten to go and then who knows? Can we be sure of anything? Can we be sure of tomorrow never mind next year? Can you be sure of your job - your personal security - your home - your marriage - your hopes and dreams - your party's policies - the soundness of your insurance policies - the money to pay your bills - your mortgage payments - the continuance of life on earth - the water in your tap or the fuel in your car? Modern life seems to be a series of uncertainties. But then life in this world always has been - most of the time for most of the people, entirely without the comfort, help and support that we now accept as perfectly normal in the western world.

So what is certain? Death and taxes - so they say, but in most people's minds these are both normally regarded as negatives - things to avoid if possible. Was it Woody Allan who said - "I don't mind the thought of dying, I just don't want to be there when it happens"? He surely spoke for many when he did. We don't want to face the inevitable but :-

It is certain that we will each leave this life at some point.
It is certain that things will happen that we cannot control or avoid.
It is certain that things will happen to challenge our faith or philosophy.
It is certain that many more people will yet come to faith in Christ.
It is certain that many will continue to trust in Christ - come what may!
The fact that so many people continue to trust in Christ is a source of utter amazement to many - real (growing ) annoyance to quite a few - smug amusement amongst the cynics and, probably, no interest at all to the rest.

Why do so many continue to trust Christ?

Because in Him : -

They find freedom from a past that was often full of fear and failure.
They find strength for today - even when today is full of trouble.
They find hope for the future - centred upon Jesus and his words.
Is it wise to ignore or deny indisputable facts?

Yours in the Gospel of Christ
